When is rope drop at disneyland?
Rope drop is never later than the time the park is scheduled to open. At Disneyland, rope drop typically occurs at the time the park is scheduled to open, while the gates to the park typically open earlier.
The first 2 hours right after park opening are the best, and being there at rope drop time puts you at an advantage. Plan to reach the bag check area at the park entrance an hour before the official park opening time. That way, you will ensure being there at rope drop for Disneyland or California Adventure.

Arrive Early
Disneyland opens at 8am most days, you should be at the gate at least 30 minutes prior to open- if not an hour early on busier days of the year. This will allow you to be at the parks for 'rope drop' where you can be first in line at the 'ropes' blocking off each entrance to the lands.
Rope drop simply means you're arriving at the park right when it opens to avoid crowds. Early entry is gaining access to the park before the official opening – a perk of staying at one of the Disney resorts. Guests at Disney hotels can be admitted to the park 30 minutes before the posted opening time.
Rope Drop for Offsite Guests
Even if you can't participate in Early Theme Park Entry, we still recommend you get to the park around 60 minutes before Early Theme Park Entry (or around 90 minutes before the park opens to all guests).
It is so much better to arrive early and take a mid-day break than to arrive late and get in line behind everyone else. During summer months, it is great if you can get to the parks at least 30 minutes prior to park opening, though 45 minutes is better.
A: It's always a great time to visit Disney theme parks! However, when planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, expect lower crowds from mid-September through mid-November (before the Thanksgiving break). Mid-January through mid-March is another time when potentially lower crowds are expected.
The day after President's Day (February) until Spring Break (mid-March) The middle of April until Memorial Day Weekend (late May) After Labor Day through the beginning of October. The second week of November (after Halloween and before Thanksgiving Week)
There are 2 ways to enjoy quicker access to some of your favorite attractions—go “à la carte” and purchase Lightning Lane entry arrival windows for a couple of our most popular attractions, and/or purchase Disney Genie+ service and enjoy Lightning Lane entry arrival windows for a different set of select attractions all ...
Is Disney Rope Drop worth it?
Short answer: This depends on what your goals are for the trip. If you want to make the most of your time and see and do as much as possible, then getting to the parks early is a good idea. Rope drop is the best time to hit the most popular rides with the shortest wait times.
Mornings are the best times at Disneyland to see popular attractions because lines are much shorter and the California sun isn't quite so hot. Before planning an efficient morning strategy for Disneyland there are a few key features of the Disneyland Resort that you must become familiar with.

After the initial onslaught is absorbed, there is a bit of a lull that lasts until about an hour after opening. Following the lull, the park is inundated with arriving guests for about 2 hours, peaking 10–11 a.m. Guests continue to arrive in a steady but diminishing stream until around 2 p.m.
Magic Kingdom Early Entry Rope Drops
Early Theme Park Entry at Magic Kingdom starts 30 minutes before the scheduled opening of the park. Unlike the other three parks, guests without Early Entry still get to enjoy some of the park, as Main Street and the hub are open to all guests once the gates open.
As usual, we're getting ahead of ourselves. If you're a Walt Disney World first-timer, you might be wondering what rope drop is. It's simply park opening–when the lands and attractions officially open. If it's easier, just think of “rope drop” as “first thing in the morning” at Magic Kingdom.
All guests are allowed to tap into the Magic Kingdom when it opens. Guests planning to rope drop Early Entry will want to hustle down the right side of Main Street to be closer to EE tap in. Tap in begins 45 minutes before EE on 8:30am days and 30 before EE on 7:30am days.
If you are going to Animal Kingdom or Epcot
While we really, really think Genie+ is worth it at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, we feel just as strongly as to it not being as necessary at Animal Kingdom and Epcot. But, while it isn't necessary, it can definitely make touring those 2 parks a lot, lot easier.
A Lightning Lane entrance is a queue available at select attractions and experiences through options Guests can purchase to save time in line. To use a Lightning Lane entrance, a Guest must select an arrival window through the My Disney Experience mobile app before embarking on the attraction or experience.
Waiting in line at Disney World is inevitable. However, depending on the time of year, the wait times may not be that bad. But, during summer for example, the wait times are at their peak. Most wait times are 45 minutes or more during peak time, with top rides reaching 120 minutes or more.
Well, maybe, but that's not what ILL means. It stands for Individual Lightning Lane attractions – big headliners that Disney now charges you extra for if you want to skip the standby line. Have more questions about how ILLs work? See Step-By-Step Guide: How to Use Genie+ and Lightning Lane at Disney World.
Can you rope drop if you stay off property?
Early Park Entry basically means that day guests to Disney World, AKA people not staying in a Disney World Resort, cannot rope drop anymore.
The general consensus in most Disney and travel forums is that Disneyland should be your first choice, and moving on to California Adventure afterward. If you are trying to get everything done in one day, staying in a hotel on-site the night before is a good idea.
If you simply want a list of dates in May and June 2023 that are likely to have the worst crowds, here's when we'd avoid visiting Disneyland: May 22-25, 2023. May 27-29, 2023. June 5-15, 2023.
- Consult a crowd calendar. An easy way to experience shorter lines is to visit Disneyland when everyone else isn't. ...
- Arrive for rope drop. ...
- Take advantage of early entry for Disney hotel guests. ...
- Go solo with single rider lines. ...
- Swap out with rider switch. ...
- Book a dining package.
Disneyland park's capacity is about 85,000 people and averages about 51,000 visitors a day.
The Disneyland Resort did give a free park admission ticket to Guests on their birthday as part of a limited-time promotion several years ago, but this is not currently offered. Tickets to enter Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park must be purchased for all visitors ages 3 and up.
If you have only one day in Disneyland Park or you do not like waiting in lines for hours, the Disney Genie Plus is definitely worth it for Disneyland. Post-pandemic, the parks have been really crowded, and wait times have gone considerably up. Be strategic about it.
Guests of Disney World hotels get three big perks to help them avoid long lines: Early booking windows for Individual Lightning Lane attractions starting at 7am, while everyone else has to wait until the park opens. Access to a select Disney World theme park 30 minutes early before park opening, every day.
Paid FastPass is officially at Walt Disney World!
Genie+ and Lightning Lanes have debuted, meaning from now on you'll be paying to skip the lines at Walt Disney World. This post covers free vs. paid Fastpass at every Disney park in the world, including how much the paid Fastpass option costs.
Disney has control over which rides they will let their line waiters get paid for. There is a secret Disney app that tells them which rides they can go to next. There are usually three options for the person to choose from. This gives them some choice, but Disney maintains most of the power and control.
What is the biggest drop at Disney?
Expedition Everest is both the tallest roller coaster and the roller coaster with the highest drop at Walt Disney World. The attraction tops out at 199.5 ft tall (not the track but the structure). The biggest drop on the ride is 80 ft tall. The shortest roller coaster is The Barnstormer and it stands only 30 feet tall.
It is important to "Know Before You Go"! Guests are welcome to carry a bag or backpack with them into the theme parks. The maximum allowable bag size is 24" by 18" by 15". All Guests and their bags will undergo a security screening process prior to entering the theme parks and Disney Springs.
Description: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a free-fall thrill ride that takes guests through a series of randomized drops from different heights after traveling through an elevator shaft.
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
- Radiator Springs Racer.
- Splash Mountain.
- Haunted Mansion.
- Space Mountain.
You can absolutely visit both Disneyland and California adventure in a single day, and still be able to hit all of the major attractions at each park. However, in order to have the best possible experience you'll want to plan your itinerary for both parks ahead of time, and consider investing in Disney Genie+.
Ideally, you should plan on spending a total of 3-4 days in the parks to cover most everything, including rides, characters, shows, and fireworks.
Sometimes, Fridays are even busier than Saturdays! But if you want that lower-crowd experience, just swap your Magic Kingdom park day to a Tuesday. Since it's toward the middle of the week, it tends to be less busy and you might be able to hop on your favorite rides with shorter wait times.
- The second half of August.
- September is pretty great to visit (except avoid Labor Day).
- October is also pretty great to visit (avoid Columbus Day).
- Weekdays in November (avoid the week of Thanksgiving).
- Weekdays in the first half of December.
Attraction wait times rose at the Disneyland Resort from a monthly average of 25 minutes in 2019 to 30 minutes in 2022, according to average monthly data collected by WDW Stats. Average wait times at Disneyland tend to be a bit lower than Disney California Adventure — which has fewer rides.
So, guests are allowed in prior to official park opening – typically 30 minutes prior – to walk down Main Street and set up at Rope Drop. Early Entry guests are allowed to bypass Rope Drop and start riding attractions as soon as they enter the park.
How early do you have to be to get early entry at Disney?
Our recommendation is arriving at least 30 minutes before Early Theme Park Entry starts. In other words, an hour before official park opening time. This is nothing new–we offer this same advice for normal days and will continue to advise off-site guests to get to the parks at least 30 minutes early.
I just placed a call to Star Command, and they confirmed you can walk to the Toy Story Parking Area by foot. You will enter the lot from Harbor Boulevard. In fact, I have done the same, when staying at a Good Neighbor hotel nearby, so I could use the parking shuttle to get to the main entrance of the parks.
How Much Does Genie+ Cost? Genie+ costs $15 or more per person, per day, plus tax. In October 2022 Disney embraced date-specific pricing for Genie+, so the price will be higher on busier dates. On the day you want to use it, you can purchase the Genie+ option using Disney's app.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is designed to be a family-friendly coaster, so the thrill level is not TOO high. It's not as fast or steep as some of the other rollercoasters at Disney World, but you will still experience some drops and sharp turns.
Walt Disney World Annual Passholders can now visit the theme parks after 2pm without needing a park reservation, except on Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom.
Before Disney World's closure and reopening, you could park hop at any time. However, that has changed. You now can only park hop AFTER 2PM. So you'll have to wait until well after lunchtime if you're planning on visiting another park.
When you make your park reservation, choose the first park you plan to visit on your selected date. Then, you may cross over and switch between parks on the same day beginning at 11:00 AM (subject to availability).
Weekdays are less crowded than weekends, especially Monday-Thursdays. On weekends, Sundays are usually less crowded than Saturdays.
This attraction has a consistent wait of at least 30 minutes after the first hour of park operation. On the busiest of days, we've seen the wait go up to more than 60 minutes at the extreme. Try to ride before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m., during the afternoon or evening parade(s), or during a performance of Fantasmic!
The cheapest days to visit the parks or stay at Walt Disney World are Sunday-Thursday. Plan your visit when children are in school, no festivals or events are taking place, and there are no national holidays to save the most money.
What is the slowest week at Disney?
We tend to find that the slowest times at Disney World are in the early fall, like September and the late winter, like February. With that being said, the least busy days Disney World do fluctuate, and our guide will go more in depth with the best tips and tricks!
It's always a great time to visit Disney theme parks! However, when planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, expect lower crowds from mid-September through mid-November (before the Thanksgiving break). Mid-January through mid-March is another time when potentially lower crowds are expected.
1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Make no mistake about it, this isn't recency bias, as this is by far the most popular ride in Disneyland, and for good reason.
The “magic age” for taking your kids on a Disneyland trip is when they are in elementary school, specifically between about 7 and 12. I think this is the best age for a couple of reasons: Most elementary school age kids are better at handling lines than younger kids.
Peter Pan's Flight Ride Experience
It's a great dark ride, maybe even one of Disney's best, and the experience of flying over the scenes adds a nice layer. Instead of being in a traditional on-the-ground dark ride vehicle, you're in a flying pirate ship suspended from above. You can view a video of the ride here.
Peter Pan's Flight is located in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom, across from “it's a small world.” The ride lasts just under 3 minutes (2:48 to be exact). You can enter through the standby line or purchase a Lightning Lane entry through Genie+.
